AND all of a sudden, it was summer. No one could really complain about the weather again this week, it's been just about perfect. Maybe a touch too much wind here and there but just about perfect just the same.
The Fish of the Year competition saw an upswing in entries which was about time. I was starting to get a bit worried.
Warwick Regan of Coffs went as far as having a double header for the week. He weighed in with a very nice 1.22kg bream and the weeks heaviest luderick of 949g. Now both of these fish came in the same session and on the same bait. No, not both at once, both fish took a prawn bait while Warwick was fishing from the South Wall. Bet that had the South Wall Fishing Club, also know as Old Codgers Anonymous, talking Warwick.
Steve Hamilton came home with the week's heaviest snapper. Steve was dangling his line just off the Third Headland when the 8.25kg nobbie grabbed hold of his lure. Steve 1, nobbies 0.
There have been some very nice whiting turning up in the estuaries of late. R. Prato of Sawtell weighed in with the best for this week, a very nice fish of 625g. …

Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything
Some English teachers complain about this column. I'll try to
do something about it.
In the meantime, here's something for weather watchers and
teachers of English about which to complain.
The tornado that struck Tarboro last week flipped and pretty
much messed up John Floyd's good old Ford pickup truck.
When some friends came with a tractor and a chain to roll the
truck back onto its wheels and tow it away, Floyd showed that
his sense of humor remained undamaged.
"Don't scratch it up," he said.
YIELD FOR FISH
The flood that hit Townsend washed up some pretty weird stuff.
Deer were swimming, and water that washed over the Steel Bridge
Road between Townsend and Cox provided a n
water moccasins, crawfish and bass.
Carlis and Sue Ryals hooked a trailer behind their tractor and
took some of the neighborhood children on a ride across the
slightly flooded road. When the tractor's headlights illuminated
some fish swimming in the road, the kids piled out and started
chasing them.
"They were splashing all over the place after those fish," Sue
Ryals said.
"And she was right in there with them," her husband said. …
