it. Therefore, advertising is unnecessary and is no more than a type of
entertainment. To what extent do you agree or disagree?  如果产品质量好,满足人们的需求,人们就会去买。因此,广告是没必要的,仅仅是一种娱乐。你在多大程度上同意或者不同意?  思路解析:  1. 娱乐功能:在指导人们购物上,广告的作用正在衰退。举例,人们更喜欢通过互联网的帖子和测评信息来选择商品。  2.
销售功能:广告帮助人们有效地了解和对比产品。举例,通过广告中对于相关产品的参数,功能,和总体性能的描述,客户能了解到该产品的特点和价值,并对于产品的好坏做出判断。  3. 刺激销售:广告能勾起观众的购买欲。举例,一个精美的广告往往能让用户重复购买他们不需要的东西,如奢侈品广告。  参考范文:  What is the root function of an advertisement in media? Some people believe
it is just for entertaining viewers and it has nothing to do with products
selling. Personally, I hold an opposed view that advertising is still the main
way of stimulating the consumption of common goods, and my reasons will be
explored as below.  Admittedly, Advertisements today have less influence on the public to
purchase commodities, because now there are diverse information accesses to
understand a product. For example, on an age of Internet, people with desires of
purchasing goods, especially the youngsters, prefer reading the professional
articles of forums or assessment websites collecting comments and feedbacks from
consumers, or listening to the advices from the face-to-face communication with
friends and peers. In their eyes, the description of a certain product on an
advertisement is unpractical, unobjective and unconvincing. Therefore,
advertisements—such as posters in billboards and Videos in TV screens—are viewed
as the amusement by which the audience’s stress and worries in minds can be
relieved.  However, I strongly believe this assertion underestimate advertisement
functions in day-to-day life. Firstly, by what way can a customer be sure of
whether a product is really good or needed? The answer is definitely the
advertisement. For example, today cell phones of different bands have a high
similarity in their appearances and shapes, and it is a big challenge for
customers to pick put the right one. So there is a necessity for adverting,
which can clearly presents the inner components, parameters and unique features
of a cell phone. By reading the detailed information, customers can easily
distinguish one product from others, and make a proper judgment of which one is
the best or most satisfying for them.  The second reason against this assertion is that advertisements can
encourage viewers to buy items they do not need. For example, typical slogans on
advertisements like &special discount&, &limited time offer& and &buy one get
one free&, are overwhelming temptations. They manipulate brains of customers,
driving them to purchase these bargains, with no concern of whether the products
are really essential or not.  All in all, this assertion is basically problematic. Although the influence
of advertisements is declining, they are still irreplaceable, in terms of their
great contributions on instructing people to compare and select high-quality
products, as well as sparking the desire of customers to do more shopping.  (409 words)

  ● 广告往往夸大其辞(exaggerating),误导性强(misleading),从而让消费者上当受骗。
  ● 广告往往通过各种方式制造消费欲望,让消费者花钱购买很多不必要的商品(buy things they do not really need),从而引发一系列社会问题(social problems)。
  ● 广告往往显示社会差异,容易让人失去心理平衡。
  具体到本次考试,其特点是对广告的影响加以具体限定:即广告有利于经济发展,同时广告会引起人们对自己的现状不满足。要求讨论双方观点,然后给出自己的观点。首先,广告鼓励人们消费,刺激人们的消费欲望,的确有利于社会的经济发展。其次,广告常常宣传一些高档消费产品,让很多人产生渴望,从而对自己的生活现状不满足,产生不幸福的感觉,同时,为了获得广告宣传的产品,有些人甚至会铤而走险,走上犯罪的道路。结论是:广告的确是有必要的,但要限制误导性的广告,同时用户也应该积极调整心态,尽量避免受到广告负面影响。

  Nowadays we cannot go anywhere without seeing advertisements of one kind or another. The penetration of advertising into our life has gone so far that sometimes we even feel amazed by its ubiquity. Advertising is, of course, very useful, informing us about what to buy, where to buy and how to buy, but it also has negative effects on individuals.
  With attractive designs and images, advertising, on top of being informative, tries to persuade people to spend money on the commodities or services it promotes. This is important to the economic development of a country. As a matter of fact, we can even find a close association between the strength of a country&s economy and the visibility of its advertising. The more advertisements are seen in a country, the more developed its economy is. The reason is simply that advertising encourages people to consume, even more than is necessary for them, and consumption, as our economics textbook would tell us, is key to the economic development.
  However, advertising may also bring about negative impacts on individuals as well as the society. For one thing, advertising may make us less content with what we have and what we are now and leave us craving hopelessly for those unattainable commodities. I still remember a few days ago when walking in front of a supermarket, I saw how a little girl, with her eyes glued on an advertising board, pestered her mother for the expensive toy on it that her mother apparently could not afford. Advertising, then, while providing us with useful commodities information, also creates the unwanted desire at our heart and makes us unhappy. For another thing, lured by the promises of advertising, some people may choose to commit crimes, which then causes a lot of social problems. A student, for instance, may rob his classmate of an iphone 8, for he was told by advertising that claims iphone 8 is superior to its previous versions. Likewise, an official may take bribery to buy an expensive house by the lake because the advertising says the luxury of living there is superb.
  In my view, advertising is necessary in our economic life and therefore, it should not be banned. Yet those misleading advertisements ought to be well kept in check, and individuals should try their best to stay as far as possible away from the negative effects of advertising.
