Both the reading and the lecture are talking about the possible support that edmontosar migrated south for surviving. The reading offers three hypothesis, which the lecturer contradicts respectively.
That edmontosars had to find enough plants to feed on so they migrated is the first assumption makes by the reading. However, according to the lecture, edmontosars did not have to migrate. The summer in Alaska was much warmer one hundred million years ago than now, and there was 24 hours' sun light every day in the Alaska during the summer, so the condition was appropriate to grow a large amount of plants in the summer time. During the winter, there would be enough nutritious died plants that had been produced during the summer for the edmontosars to feed on. Thus it was unlikely that edmontosars migrated because of the lack of food.
The second point the reading asserts is that edmontosars lived in herds, which could help them to coordinate during migration. By contrast, in accordance with the lecture, living in herds does not necessarily mean edmontosars migrated, because living in herds can provide other benefits for edmontosars such as extra protection, which is very important for animals. The lecturer gives the example of Roosavelt Elks, which live in herds but do not migrate. Therefore, living in herds cannot support the migration of the edmontosars.
According to the reading, that edmontosars were physically capable of migrating long distances is the third possibility. However, the lecturer argues that while adult edmontosars were able to travel long distances, the young edmontosars could not be fast enough, and the migration speed of the whole herd would slow down because the adults had to wait for the young ones. Adult edmontosars could not abandon the young edmontosars because the young ones were not capable of surviving independently. Consequently, the hypothesis that edmontosars migrated to the south cannot hold water.
Nowadays, quality of university education is becoming more and more a significant concern of the society. There are a variety of approaches to improve the quiality of education, among which I believe spending money on salaries of university professors is an efficient one. Higher salaries for university professors can not only provoke the working enthusiasm of professors, but also provide them with necessary fund to carry out academic researches.
Higher salaries for university professors can kindle their enthusiasm for teaching. With more salaries as a practical reward, professors will be more willing to dedicate more the career of education. According to the survey launched by ERA (Education Research Association), the average time that professors with salaries higher than 1000 dollars per month devote to education is 60 hours, much higher than the 45 hours of those with salaries lower than 1000 dollars. It is no doubt that generally speaking, the more time professors involve in the process of education, the more care and knowledge their students can obtain, which can certainly raise the quality of the education.
If university professors have higher salaries, they will be able to conduct more academic researches, which will develop their academic ability and finally benefit the quality of education. Last year, some professors in my university obtained relatively higher salaries than others, and they had the fund to carry out some academic projects and reseaches that they had been always wanted to. These new projects and researches made new discoveries and borught fruitful academic results, which professors shared with us in the class and broadened our horizons. This kind of phenomenon is not isolated. The improvement of salaries of university professors, by helping them conduct researches, can benefit their education to students.
Admittedly, raising the salaries of professors can consume a huge sum of money, which will raise the financail burden of the university. However, the mertis of higher salaries for professors are so significant that they can outweight the cost. In addition, nowadays the government has been giving more educational funds to universities to support education, which can relieve the burden brought by higher salaries for professors.
In conclusion, raising university professors' salaries can be extraodinarily beneficial to the quality of education, which can raise the willingness of professors for education, and enable them to conduct useful academic researches.

The reading passage provides three arguments to support the migration hypothesis about edmontosaurs. However, the lecturer contradicts the points listed in the reading material.
First of all, the passage deems that the edmontosaur's diet can supports the migration hypothesis because edmontosaurs fed exclusively on plants and North Slope winter is too cold and dark for plants' growing. However, the lecture againsts it by holding that the temperature hundreds years ago was much warmer than it is today. Sun appeared 24 hours a day at peak of summer to provided a good growing condition for plants. In this way, edmontosaur could live through dead plants' nutrition during winter.
Then, the reading passage maintains that many edmontosaur skeletons have been found from the same site and edmontosaur lived in herd, which can be a congent evidence to support the hypothesis. But the lecture disagrees with that by implying that many animals live in herd for many other reasons. Such as for extra protection to keep away predators. In addition, the professor gives an example about an animal lives in the western America, who lives in herd but does not migrate.
Finally, the passage points out that edmonosaurs were physically capable of migrating long distances. But the lecture rejects that by indicating that some edmonosaurs were unable to do so. Some edmonosaurs were not in adult and could not migrate such a long distance and not survive on their own.
As for me, I totally agree with the statement that improving the quality of education by raising the salaries of university professors. It is not uncommon that some professors are not concentrate on teaching because salaries are too low to guarantee their daily life. Also, some of them are not satify about their salaries which might affect the quality of education.
First of all, only small part of teachers teach for fun. Majority of them want to make a living though teaching. A cogent example of mine is that many teachers in my school get part-time jobs as tutor after school. My Math teacher is exactly one of them. She looks tired everyday and we can feel that she is not focus on her teaching. We were so confused until one day she told us she had to go to the student's home everyday after work and helped him with Math. Then she went home in late night which totally affect the quality of her teaching. Try to imagine that if the salary is enough, why does make herself so tired? In this way, salaries are supposed to be raised in order to improve the quality of education.
Then, I want to talk about my biology teacher because he is not satify with the salary he gets. My biology teacher is young and ambitous. The efficiency of his class is pretty low because he often complains about the salary in biology class. Sometimes he is so angry about the low salary and even skips the class which makes whole class are weak in biology. I think this instance can strongly proves that universities should spend more money on salaries for professor to guarantee the quality of education.
As discussed above, I would like make a conclusion about the relationship between salaries and the quality of education. High salary is able to provide professor a great mood and makes them completely focus on their teaching career.
