Abstract:The information quantity passed through the overlapped Field of View (FOV) is larger than that passed through the non-overlapped FOV in staring binocular imaging system, a new parallel high-speed automatic detecting algorithm of moving point targets is established based on this feature. The detecting algorithm uses the Norm of the difference vectors of the processed images sequence as a preprocessing to get rid of most of low-frequency noise and background, then Optic Flow is used to segment the doubtful moving point targets from the images remained after preprocessing, and finally the novel space-time parallel high-speed determining method proposed in this paper is used to determine whether the doubtful moving point are true targets or not. The experiment results show that with the established algorithm, the average determining speed for moving point targets is raised 50% than that of the monocular imaging system, and the correct determining probability is 95% when the SNR of processed images is no less than 3 dB.

Abstract:Eu&sup&3+&/sup& chelates with thenoyltrifluoroacetylacetone (TTFA), Hexafluoroacetylacetone(HFA) and dibenzoyl -methide (DBM) as the ligands and PMMA doped with these chelates were synthesized, respectively. Fluorescence properties of the chelates Eu(TTFA)&sub&3&/sub&, Eu(HFA)&sub&3&/sub&, Eu(DBM)&sub&3&/sub& in benzene solution and in PMMA matrix were investigated. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of Eu (TTFA)&sub&3&/sub& was the topmost. The effect factors on the fluorescence intensity of complexes were analyzed. It was testified that TTFA was a good ligand of Eu&sup&3+&/sup& for red fluorescence emission. Finally, the dependence of Eu(TTFA)&sub&3&/sub& doping concentrations (0.08 wt.%-0.5wt.%) on the fluorescence intensity and the fluorescence lifetimes were investigated. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity and the lifetimes increased within the doping concentrations investigated. The fluorescence lifetimes were between 280-400 &s. Such fluorescing PMMA might have extensive prospect of applications in optical devices, such as polymer optical fibers, lasers, amplifiers and waveguides.

Abstract:Ultrabroadband three-wave-mixing is analyzed using the concept of pulse-front-tilt, which is achieved by means of angular dispersion. The results show exactly matching of both group-velocity and pulse-front is the important criterion for constructing an ultrabroadband TWM. A theoretical model is developed, in which the group velocities, noncollinear angles, spatial walk-off angles, linear angular spectral dispersion coefficients and pulse-front tilted angles are suitably linked to each other. Expressions for finding ideal phase matching angle, noncollinear angle and linear angular spectral dispersion coefficient are obtained. Specific numerical results are presented for crystals BBO and LBO with type-I noncollinear angularly dispersed geometry. The numerical simulations verify that our model is valid for designing a practicable ultrabroadband parametric process.

Abstract:The near-threshold highly bound states of all three stable isotopic variants of molecular hydrogen have been studied. Numerous perturbations and unexpected transitions are observed as far as 1 cm&sup&-1&/sup& just below the second dissociation threshold. This complex structure may arise from a combination of nonadiabatic coupling between B, B&, C electronic states, perturbations due to fine and hyperfine interactions, and strong shape resonances. The perturbed near-threshold states and vibrational continuum exhibit finegrained structure, differing greatly between isotopes because of varying nonadiabatic coupling. & 2006 Chin. Phys. Abstract:Monodisperse, Eu(TTFA)&sub&3&/sub&-doped colloidal SiO&sub&2&/sub& microspheres with different doping concentrations were synthesized by the modified Stober method. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) and fluorescence spectrometer were employed to characterize the doping particles. It was found that the particles with the spherical morphology and the smooth surfaces had an average diameter of 300 nm and a size polydispersity of 3.5%. Visible luminescence of Eu&sup&3+&/sup& from Eu(TTFA)&sub&3&/sub&-doped colloidal SiO&sub&2&/sub& microspheres was observed, with a lifetime of about 290 &s. Furthermore, the effect of doping concentrations (0.5-1.5 wt.%) on the fluorescence intensity and the lifetimes was studied. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity increased with the doping concentrations, there was no obvious luminescence quenching during the processes of being excited, and the luminescence lifetimes were almost invariable while the doping concentrations were changed. Such fluorescence microspheres might have potential in active photonic crystals, microlasers and biological applications.

Abstract:A kind of photonic 'Robin Hood' based on four-wave mixing is proposed and proved to be effective, theoretically and experimentally, in detail. Its applications for L-band dual-wavelength erbium-doped fibre (EDF) laser use are experimentally demonstrated at room temperature. The experimental results show that the conventional EDF cavity only induces a very unstable L-band laser, but the novel Robin Hood can effectively suppress the homogeneous gain in the erbium laser. By using suitable fibre Bragg gratings and stretching them, the proposed EDF laser can operate from &1520 to &1635nm, so our dual-wavelength EDF laser can be used in lasing operation not only for the L band but also for the C band. The outstanding merits of our dual-wavelength laser are the flexible tuning and the ultrabroad spectral range of more than 115nm. The experimental results show that the stability and uniformity of the proposed dual-wavelength laser in C-band operation are better than those for the same laser in L-band operation. & 2006 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Abstract:Linear optical absorption and terahertz (THz) sideband generation in quantum wells in the presence of a strong growth-direction oriented THz electric field is investigated. It is shown that the THz field can couple more than two levels simultaneously. The absorption spectra show a rich variety of behavior, including THz replicas of the 2 p exciton and THz sideband of the 1s exciton. The THz electric field results in multiple optical absorption peaks due to resonant coupling between the valence subbands and produces splittings in the generated sidebands. &2006 IEEE.

Abstract:The photosensitive PZT sols and their gel films were prepared by sol-gel process. Based on the photosensitivity of the PZT gel films, two-dimensional (2D) array of the PZT gel film was fabricated using twice-exposure of double-beam interference on the gel film. PZT gel films coated on ITO/quartz substrate were exposed to an interference fringe of 325 He-Cd laser beams, the substrate was rotated by 90& between the first and second irradiation steps. Island type periodic 2D array structures with a pitch of 1 &m and cell size of about 480 nm & 480 nm & 40 nm were formed after the irradiation, and followed by leaching with organic solvent, and then by heat treatment at 600&C for 15 min. The hysteresis loops of the cell in PZT array were in-situ measured by the online-operation of TF analyzer and atomic force microscope (AFM). The probe can be located on the locked cell of PZT array in the AFM image. The alternating voltage applied to the locked cell is supplied by the TF analyzer through the conductive coating probe, and then the test signal is fed back to the TF analyzer to obtain the hysteresis loop of the locked cell of array in the absence of top electrode. The results show that the sub-micro size PZT arrays prepared in this way are of polarization reversal characteristics with the alternating electric fields, thereby exhibiting obvious ferroelectricity. & Science in China Press 2006.

Abstract:The Step-index plastic optical fiber(SIPOF) bandwidth calculation model is given. The model includes not only the modal delay but also the attenuation and mode coupling effects, the numerical solution of the power flow equation in Fourier domain which is the main equation in this model is reported. This solution is based on Crank-Nicholson implicit difference method. The frequency response function and bandwidth of four kinds of SIPOFS with different Numerical aperture is researched. The frequency response function and bandwidth under selective excitation is numerically calculated. The results imply that the selective excitation of SIPOF increased effectively the fiber bandwidth. Abstract:Based on analyzing the mechanism of the hyper-spectral CCD imager's non-uniformity and several non-uniformity correction algorithms, the method of two-point multi-section for hyper-spectral CCD imager's non-uniformity correction was presented. The two-point multi-section method has higher precision than two-point correction algorithm and has lower operation load than multi-point correction algorithm. The application of the two-point multi-section method to hyper-spectral imager showed that the method has the merits of low operation load, high precision and strong practicability.

Abstract:The space-charge field with a higher-order nonlinearity in biased centrosymmetric photorefractive media is presented. When the higher-order term can be neglected, this space-charge field is that studied previously in biased centrosymmetric photorefractive media. The nonlinear wave equation with a higher-order nonlinearity is investigated in biased centrosymmetric photorefractive media, which can exhibit bright and dark spatial solitons under appropriate conditions. The nonlinear change in the refractive index in centrosymmetric photorefractive media resulted from the quadratic electro-optic effect, rather than the linear electro-optic effect in noncentrosymmetric media. The stability of these spatial solitons is discussed using beam propagation methods, and it has been found that optical spatial solitons in biased centrosymmetric photorefractive media are stable against small perturbations in amplitude not broken up.

Abstract:An optical system of Dome-screen projector which plays important roll in the pilot-training process was proposed. The lens system adopted the Reverse-Telephoto configuration which had an effective focal length of 5.5mm, an F-number of F/4, a field of view of 175&, and a working wavelength in the range of visible spectrum. A discussion about the relationship between the screen radius and the field curve was presented to explain why this system had an advantage in reducing the field curve. A relatively convenient method of choosing the appropriate screen radius was given at the end of the discussion.

Abstract:The variable relationship between the threshold of the extrapolation and its correspondent Peak of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) in the Wavelet Bi-linear Interpolation Algorithm is deeply analyzed. The Maximal PSNR Wavelet Bi-linear Interpolation Iterative Algorithm is proposed. This algorithm can automatically search the optimal extrapolation threshold to improve the resolution of the optical remote sensing image without damaging its original information, which makes the detail information of the processed image more favorable to be observed and analyzed. The experiment results show that the PSNR of the image reconstructed by this algorithm is 5.5 dB and 2.5 dB higher than that of those reconstructed by the Bi-linear Interpolation and the Wavelet Scale-Function Interpolation respectively, and its entropy is 1.3 times of its original image. It is an effect algorithm to improve the spatial resolution and entropy of the Optical Remote Sensing Image.

Abstract:Patterned c-plane sapphire substrate is prepared by chemical etching. GaN films are grown by LP-MOCVD on surface treated sapphire substrate and common c-plane sapphire substrate. The structure and properties of the GaN films are analyzed by high-resolution double crystal X-ray diffraction (DCXRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The results indicate that the quality of GaN film grown on sapphire substrate prepared by surface treatment is superior to that grown on common c-plane sapphire substrate. High-resolution double crystal X-ray diffraction shows that for the GaN grown on surface treated sapphire substrate, the (0002) and (101 over-bar 2) reflections have full-width at half-maximum as low as 208.80 arcsec and 320.76 arcsec, respectively. The shortcomings of procedure complexity and high crystallographic tilt in conventional lateral epitaxial overgrowth are overcome by using the new method.

Abstract:The writing of multi-layered data bits inside a PMMA block doped with rare-earth ions Ce&sup&3+&/sup& excited by a 800 nm femtosecond (200 fs, 1 kHz, 800 nm) pulsed laser, and the measurement and discussion of absorption spectra and electron spin resonance spectra before and after femtosecond laser irradiation are reported. The results indicate that the block has a low writing energy threshold, and it's propitious to high speed and parallel three-dimensional data storage. Experimental results of three-dimensional recording and reading with 4 &m in-plane pit spacing and 16 &m inter-plane spacing in four layers are presented using a conventional microscope. The relation between the size of the microexplosion pit and the laser pulse energy is discussed. For high storage density, smaller pulse energy is preferable while keeping enough grey value. It's proved that this material can be used in three-dimensional data storage.

Abstract:A new approach for packed FBG (fiber Bragg grating) pressure sensor using chemical bonding technics between polymer and FBG was proposed and demonstrated. A kind of chemical bonding material was used to strengthen the bonding between fiber and polymer in order to improve the pressure response of FBG sensor. This technics resolved the problem of avulsion in high pressure due to the big difference elastic modulus between polymer and fiber. The experimental result indicated that, within 0.04 MPa~0.6 MPa, the pressure response sensitivity was -4. 48 nm / MPa and the resolution pressure measurement was &0. 01 MPa, which is 1463 times higher than that of the bare FBG. The linearity of the temperature response curves is 0. 9978. Reflection spectrum showed a steady figure through repeated measurement.

Abstract:Cross-correlation algorithm is based on information theory and stochastic process theory. It has been widely used in many research fields, such as, medical ultrasound, ocean engineering, signal detection, modal parameters under ambient excitation, etc., but its applications in research of bubble curtains are seldom seen in domestic released periodicals, so our work is attempting to use cross-correlation algorithm. Through computing the velocity vector of bubble curtains, the bubble movement character can be known, i.e. the details of the bubble curtains can also be known. After comparing the differences between it and Doppler method, the cross-correlation algorithm has been applied to the measurement of bubble curtains parameters from a new aspect. The He-Ne laser and high-speed CCD camera are used to acquire the images of dancing bubbles, the velocities of bubbles are computed from image post-processed. Through improving conventional cross-correlation algorithm commonly used for analysis of flow field, the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) has been used to implement the cross-correlation algorithm rapidly. In order to enhance the computing accuracy, Gaussian eurve fitting is used to modify the correlation peak location and the fitting equations are listed, so the bubbles displacement with subpixel accuracy is obtained. Noises are stochastically added from hardware when acquiring images and the cross-correlation algorithm may also introduce errors. The character of velocity vectors result can be entirely wrong with ambient vectors, so they must be corrected. In order to calibrate the cross-correlation algorithm, images with universal displacement are used to validate its feasibility and reliability. The algorithm is applied to the computation of parameters in bubble curtains, yielding the vector graph of bubble motion. The algorithm is expected to be a valuable tool in acquiring the real-time velocity information in bubble curtains.

Abstract:A novel X-ray source with micro-beam has been studied in theory and experiment. The source is composed of three portions: LaB&inf&6&/inf& crystal cathode electron gun emitting system, electrostatic focusing system, and permutable metal target system. The electronic current emitted by the electron-gun are controlled by modulating cathode temperature and Wehnelt grid voltage and ratio D&inf&w&/inf&/H, two-equal-radius-cylinder-electrodes focusing system concentrates electron beam, the X-ray photons are irradiated by high energy electron beam bombarding the metal target. The new x-ray source's general-purpose capabilities such as continuous radiation and pulse radiation, focus size and luminance, are also tested. When the temperature of LaB &inf&6&/inf& cathode is about 1900K and partial pressures being kept below 10&sup&-7&/sup& torr, the minimal focus diameter is merely about 10 microns. The new micro focus x-ray source has other lots of advantages such as economy, safety and facility.

Abstract:Spatially partially incoherent and coherent dark photovoltaic solitons are comprehensively experimentally studied with phase masks in LiNbO&sub&3&/sub& : Fe crystals. One-dimension and two-dimension dark photovoltaic solitons are observed with spatially partially incoherent and coherent beam, which result from the bulk photovoltaic effect and when diffraction is exactly balanced by photorefractive self-defocusing. The analysis of theory and experiments shows that dark photovoltaic solitons depend on the direction of propagation, orientation of the intensity gradient, with respect to the crystalline axes of the medium. Under certain conditions, the steady-state spatially partially incoherent dark photovoltaic solitons can be observed.

Abstract:The spatial evolution of plasma filaments in air induced by femtosecond laser pulses is investigated experimentally. Several major filaments and small scaled additional filaments are detected in the plasma channel. The complicated interaction process of filaments as splitting, fusion and spreading is observed. The major filaments propagate stably, and the small scaled additional filaments can be attracted to the major filaments and merged with them. The major filaments are formed due to the perturbation of initial beam profile and the small scaled filaments are mainly caused by the transverse modulational instability. & 2006 Optical Society of America.

Abstract:The principle of ultra-rapid-scanning Interferometer is introduced and a new kind of ultra-rapid-scanning imaging interferometer based on the principle is provided. The imaging interferometer has a wider angle of field and higher scan efficiency. The character of the imaging interferometer is that it has a rotating planner reflector with an angle of inclination instead of the straight-line planner reflector in Michelson interferometer. The questions of lower scan efficiency and instability are well solved in Michelson interferometer.

Abstract:ZnO thin films are prepared on sapphire (0001) substrate by laser molecular beam epitaxy (L-MBE) and the optical properties were studied. It is found that the growth conditions and the treat process have obvious effect on the optical properties of ZnO films. With the increase of the growth oxygen pressure, the concentration of the structural defects in ZnO films caused by the disbalance of Zn and O stoichiometric proportion is depressed effectively. As a result, the UV emission intensity grows much higher, but the deep level (DL) emission is depressed. Sample 1#, 2#, and 3# were grown at oxygen pressure 2.0E-3Pa, 8.0E-3Pa, 2.0E-2Pa respectively, and the ratio of the UV emission intensity and the DL emission intensity were 1.00, 2.34, 3.31 respectively. The effect of annealing treatment on the transmission spectra of ZnO films was also studied. Sample 1# was cut into three parts and annealed at 500&C, 600&C, 700&C respectively in the air atmosphere. The transmittivity in the visible range become much greater after annealing and the higher the annealing temperature is, the higher the transmittivity becomes. When annealed at 700&C, the transmittivity has nearly doubled.
